	Authorized Provider Of CPR and ECC Courses

The Rescue Academy is committed to providing state-of-the-art training in Advanced, Basic, and Pediatric Life Support to healthcare professionals as well as the lay community.
As healthcare professionals we are all committed to the “chain of survival”. The “chain of survival” concept was first introduced in the American Heart Association’s Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care published in 2000. The chain of survival is a metaphor that illustrates a series of related interventions that will improve the outcomes of victims of cardiac and respiratory emergencies.

Each link in the chain identifies an early intervention: early access (call 9-1-1), early CPR, early defibrillation, and early advanced life support. Each early intervention requires the training of persons ranging from the lay rescuer, to the first responder, to EMTs, to the emergency room physician. This training is delivered through the American Heart Association’s Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) training network.

The St. Croix Rescue Academy “CPR NOW!” Program recognizes that healthcare providers have knowledge and skills acquired over years of retraining and clinical experience. Our new Health Care Provider Renewal Course allows the healthcare provider to complete many of the required course components at home, work or over the Internet.

Work at your own pace at home or at the office. After successful completion of our study at home program or the AHA online portion come to our Training Center for your skills check off. This should only one (1) hour maximum.

Course Descriptions

BLS Healthcare Provider Course
The BLS Healthcare Provider Course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages (including doing ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It's intended for participants who provide heath care to patients in a wide variety of

settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. For certified or non certified, licensed or non licensed healthcare professionals.

Course Length: 6-8 hours

Written/Skills Exam: Required for completion card

Intended Audience
Healthcare providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, and other allied health personnel.

Required Student Text and Materials:

BLS for Healthcare Providers
Recommended for licensed or certified healthcare professionals.
Or
Fundamentals of BLS for Healthcare Providers
Recommended for non-licensed providers and those with a minimal healthcare background who are required to take this course for employment.

Heartsaver CPR in Schools
This guide provides a framework to help school systems or individual
schools implement the Heartsaver CPR in Schools program.

The Heartsaver AED Course
The Heartsaver AED Course teaches the basic techniques of adult CPR and how to use an AED. Students also learn about using barrier devices in CPR and giving first aid for choking.

Heartsaver CPR
The Heartsaver CPR Course is modular and teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking for adult, child, and infant victims.

The Heartsaver First Aid Course
This course provides the skills to effectively assess and maintain life from the critical minutes immediately following an emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel.

Heartsaver FACTS Course
The Heartsaver FACTS Course combines adult CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) with basic first aid procedures. Students of this course will be taught how to perform adult CPR, relieve a foreign-body airway obstruction, use a barrier device during rescue breathing, use an AED and provide first aid for acute injuries and sudden illnesses.

CPR for Family and Friends
The CPR for Family and Friends course teaches rescuers skills in CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. It covers the AHA Chain of Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking in adults, infants and children.
